Marble Sink Care in India's Climate: Monsoon, Hard Water, Heat — The Complete Indian Guide
India's Hard Water Challenge
India has some of the world's hardest water, particularly in Rajasthan, Delhi, Gujarat and Maharashtra. Hard water leaves white calcium deposits on marble surfaces. Solution: Wipe dry after every use with a microfibre cloth. Weekly clean with pH-neutral stone cleaner removes deposits before they build up. NEVER use limescale removers containing acid — they will etch the marble permanently.
Monsoon Humidity
High humidity during monsoon does not damage sealed marble. Ensure annual sealing is done before monsoon season (March-April). If bathroom ventilation is poor, run exhaust fan during and after showering to reduce sustained humidity. Condensation on marble surfaces: wipe dry, do not leave wet.
Summer Heat (Mumbai, Rajasthan, Gujarat)
Marble is unaffected by normal bathroom temperatures. Even in the hottest Indian summers, bathroom temperatures do not reach the threshold where marble is affected. No special summer precautions needed.
The One Rule That Covers Everything
Keep acid away from marble. Lemon, vinegar, toothpaste, most bathroom cleaners, limescale removers — all contain acid. All etch marble. Use pH-neutral stone cleaner only. This one rule, followed consistently, keeps Indian marble beautiful for decades.
