Stone Bathtub Maintenance India - How to Care for Marble Bathtub | Oceania

Stone Bathtub Maintenance India - Keep Your Marble Perfect for Decades

A natural marble bathtub is not just a purchase - it is a commitment to a material that rewards care with extraordinary longevity. Unlike acrylic or ceramic, marble cannot be replaced with a like-for-like substitute if damaged. The right maintenance routine protects your investment and keeps your bathtub looking like the day it was installed.

Weekly Cleaning Routine

After every bath: Rinse the bathtub thoroughly with clean water to remove soap residue, bath oils and body products. Dry the interior surface with a soft microfibre cloth - this prevents water spot formation and mineral deposit buildup. Weekly: Use a pH-neutral stone cleaner and a soft cloth for a thorough clean. Never use bathroom spray cleaners, bleach or anything acidic.

Annual Sealing

Seal your marble bathtub once per year with a penetrating stone sealer. For Indian climates with monsoon humidity, seal before the monsoon season begins (May) and inspect again in October. Test whether resealing is needed by dripping water onto the stone - if it beads, the seal is intact. If it absorbs, reseal immediately.

Stain Removal

Rust stains from iron in water: Use a stone-safe rust remover, never acidic solutions. Hard water deposits: Stone-safe calcium and limescale remover only. Bath oil/body oil stains: Apply acetone with a soft cloth, leave 10 minutes, rinse thoroughly. Dye stains from bath bombs or colour products: Hydrogen peroxide poultice left for 24 hours.

Products to Absolutely Avoid

  • Vinegar or lemon juice - will permanently etch marble

  • Bleach - damages the stone surface over time

  • Abrasive scrubbers - will scratch the polished finish

  • Any bathroom cleaner not explicitly labelled safe for natural stone
